The Wit and Wisdom of Howard Hendricks
FEW HAVE HAD A GREATER IMPACT ON THE BODY OF CHRIST THAN THE BELOVED 'PROF'
It’s difficult for us to fathom that 45 years have passed since Dr. Howard G. Hendricks and I launched THE ART OF FAMILY LIVING - our ministry now known as LIVE THE WORD. The ‘Prof,’ as we affectionately called him at Dallas Theological Seminary, is now enjoying face to face fellowship with the Lord (who called him Home in February of 2013). We miss him and are forever grateful for his profound ministry, which extended across the globe - for greater than one half century. During the early years of THE ART OF FAMILY LIVING, radio interviews with Prof never failed to educate, enlighten, and entertain. Questioning him about topics relevant to the times in which we live always gleaned comments rich in biblical perspective and common sense. His brief discussion of Christmas below provides a glimpse of his transparency and the practical application of Truth.
Brief Reflections on Christmas
Somehow he was gifted with the ability to mix penetrating Truth with a unique humor that ‘drove the message home.’ As evidenced below, it was not uncommon to experience uncontrollable laughter one moment and unimaginable conviction the next!

Does that Verse Mean What I think it Means?
The effectiveness of Prof’s teaching the Scriptures is second to none. But beyond the sermons and seminars, his greatest influence may be the Lord’s pouring of Truth into the hearts of seminary students … among them well known pastors like Chuck Swindoll and David Jeremiah. But today a multitude of others - most of whom will never be well known here on earth. But we have purposed to serve diligently as a result of Prof’s life and mentorship.
Prof and his incredible wife Jeanne had a vision to multiply impact, and I am a case in point. Teri and I thank the Lord for the opportunity to serve alongside them during our early years of ministry.
In January of 1975, I enjoyed a promising career in the financial sector, but the Lord had other plans. Through the prayers of godly coworkers at Alden Levine Associates in Philadelphia, I miraculously trusted in Jesus as my Savior … and within months met and married my wife Teri, abandoned plans for an advanced degree from George Mason University, and enrolled as a student at DTS.
After a couple years as a seminary student I spoke with Prof about multiplying his ministry through media … and he and Jeanne saw a passion for the Lord and an additional possibility for ministry. I am so grateful
Throughout his half century of proclaiming Truth, only the Lord knows how many hearts and lives were changed for God’s glory. We encourage you to follow this link (DTS) and explore messages by Dr. Hendricks and fellow professors.
Although many years have passed, we remain dedicated to the practical application of the Word of God, reaching as many lives as possible through whatever means possible, multiplying ministry as far as God deems possible. And we anxiously await the soon return of our Savior. Your prayers and continued support are deeply appreciated.
Longing for His Appearing,
John Nieder
