Our Response to the Mockery of the Last Supper
The Opening Ceremony at the Olympics was an affront to our Savior.
It made me angry.
Isn’t it enough that daily we hear His name spewed out as a curse word in media and on the lips of common people alike?
Then for the world to see a rotund, gaudily garbed woman (known as Barbara Butch to her followers) sitting in a representation of the place reserved for our Savior … surrounded by drag queens. The parallel to Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting of THE LAST SUPPER was blatantly obvious and deeply offensive to those of us who love the Lord Jesus Christ.
Some - even believers - have defended the scene, citing the Olympic Games’ roots in Greek mythology, with this scene being an apt homage to the painting “The Feast of the Gods” by Harmensz van Bijlert. The problem with this explanation? It is false. The intent was never to represent anything other than the Last Supper. By now you’ve most likely heard that the actual playbill for the event referenced the reenactment of Da Vinci’s painting. And, as if that were not enough, Barbara Butch herself exclaimed delight at sitting in the focal point of an “all inclusive gay last supper.” Repulsive to consider.
Friends, this is a spiritual battle which will only increase in intensity in the days and years ahead. The conflict is much greater than what the eye beholds …”For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6.12).”
James 4.7,8 explains how we can experience victory in this battle. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you …“ One of the choicest avenues towards nearness to our Lord is worship … and we invite you to join us, pausing for a few moments to consider who our Savior is, what He has done for us at the cross, and how glorious it will be on that day when the victory will be won and the prince of darkness will reign no more … “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. (Philippians 2. 9-11).”
I invite you to join us, be still, and worship our Savior, as you listen to the song below. While many deny Him and defame Him, we will ADORE and worship Him!
Adore by Erik Nieder
My feet are tired in need of rest
So I come to the water's edge
You're all I have and all I need
Wash over me with perfect peace
Chorus
I will adore You
Be still before You
Eternal King, Jesus my everything
I will adore You
These weary hands have nothing left
So I come to the water's edge
You're all I have and all I need
Is more of You and less of me
I will seek You, I will find You
When all of my heart be surrendered to You
In all of my longing, in all of my waiting
In all of Your glory Your grace will meet me
I will seek You, I will find You
When all of my heart be surrendered to You
In all of my longing, in all of my waiting
In all of Your glory my God You'll meet me
I will adore You
Be still before You
Eternal King, Jesus my everything
I will adore You
Thank you for joining us in worshipping the Lord.
Music rich in biblical truth is vital in the day in which we live, as the songs we sing embed their words in our hearts and minds. Along with scripture memorization, music anchors our thoughts to the eternal Word of God.
Let us know how we can encourage you as you seek to know, love, and adore our soon coming King.
